The Office for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning (ATL) is excited to bring you our new monthly newsletter, "Faculty Rhode to Success". The purpose of our newsletter is to highlight the great work of URI faculty and graduate student instructors and share relevant information about professional development opportunities designed to support and equip all members of the university's instructional community.

The University of Rhode Island Office for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning

In collaboration with the Office of the Provost and the Office of Community, Equity, and Diversity, ATL is seeking to learn more about the current needs of URI faculty for the purpose of developing relevant programming and just in time resources that will inform our work, meet your needs, and create future experiences tailored for professional, social, and career success. ATL invites all instructors—full-time faculty, part-time faculty, instructional staff, and graduate teaching assistants—to join us for a complimentary luncheon in appreciation for all of the work you do to support our students' educational growth. 

 

Date: Thursday, April 25, 2024

Time: Noon - 1:30 p.m.

Location: URI Library, Galanti Lounge

 

The first 100 attendees will receive an "ATL Appreciates URI Instructors" travel tumbler (one per person).

Have you been wanting to determine ways to incorporate AI into your class, but haven’t had the time? Join us for a summer institute where we will take a deep dive into AI and its integration into teaching and learning, emerging on the other side with more informed perspectives, tools, and approaches. We invite you to join an interdisciplinary team of faculty trained to provide valuable feedback on academic programs' student learning outcomes assessment reports. Whether you're experienced in learning outcomes assessment or new to the process, we welcome your participation!  You'll enhance your assessment knowledge, develop valuable skills, and collaborate with peers to support your colleagues and their effort to document continuous improvement efforts in undergraduate programs at URI.

IEC Appreciation: The inaugural ATL Innovative Education Conference (IEC) was a success. Thank you so much for your support, and we look forward to next year’s conference!
 

IDEA Workshop: Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at 11 a.m. (Zoom). This workshop is designed for both first time and returning users interested in understanding tools available within the IDEA platform, including monitoring response rates, accessing current and past results, and navigating results pages to best interpret them. Register here for this event.

 

Online Pedagogy: Beginning Monday, June 3, 2024, Online Pedagogy is a four-week, asynchronous online workshop designed to give you the background and knowledge of best-practices to enhance and hone your online teaching skills using the Brightspace platform. You will emerge from this course with a solid start to your online course site, great ideas for remote instruction, and a certificate that designates you as a qualified online teacher! ATC and Ramadan Support: The Academic Testing Center (ATC) will hold its last Sunset Session for Muslim Students after 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10, 2024. Faculty can submit requests via RegisterBlast and indicate "Ramadan Testing - Extended Evening Hours" as the exam category. Please direct questions to Lisa Macaruso, Assistant Director of the ATC, at academictesting@uri.edu.

 

Campus Partner - 2024 Excellence in General Education Award Reminder: The Office of Innovation in General Education is sponsoring the 2023-2024 Excellence in General Education Awards. This annual award recognizes three members of the URI faculty who are committed to providing students with an intellectually stimulating, challenging, and dynamic general education experience. Deserving faculty have demonstrated excellence in the delivery and design of a General Education course. More information about the awards can be found on this form. The deadline to submit a nomination is Friday, April 5, 2024.
