The Office for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning (ATL) is excited to bring you our new monthly newsletter, "Faculty Rhode to Success". The purpose of our newsletter is to highlight the great work of URI faculty and graduate student instructors and share relevant information about professional development opportunities designed to support and equip all members of the university's instructional community.

ATL is pleased to announce and invite applications for our new Faculty Leaders Program. This program is designed to give faculty members the opportunity to serve in a leadership role, working collaboratively with ATL staff, to both advance their professional development and support the advancement of faculty and graduate student instructors across the university.

 

We are inviting applications in three leadership areas: Graduate Student Instructor Support; Inclusive Teaching & Accessibility; and Student Learning Outcomes, Assessment, and Accreditation. Visit our website to learn more about these areas and how to apply

Our inaugural IEC will feature 2 dynamic keynote speakers, Dr. Viji Sathy (Duke University) and Dr. Kelly Hogan (University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill), who together co-authored the book Inclusive Teaching: Strategies for Promoting Equity in the College Classroom. The Academic Testing Center will offer Sunset Sessions on Wednesday evenings for Muslim Students during Ramadan after 6pm on March 20th, March 27th, April 3rd, and April 10th.

 

Faculty can submit requests via RegisterBlast and indicate "Ramadan Testing - Extended Evening Hours" as the exam category.

Have you been wanting to determine ways to incorporate AI into your class, but haven’t had the time? Join us for a summer institute where we will take a deep dive into AI and its integration into teaching and learning, emerging on the other side with more informed perspectives, tools, and approaches. ATL invites submissions for the Spring 2024 "Thank-an-Instructor" program. Students will be able to express appreciation for instructors who have positively impacted their educational journey in meaningful ways through thank you notes. ATL will collect and review students' comments, transferring them into a digital display and sending them to instructors. Visit our website to learn more about this program.

Inclusive Excellence Awards
This is a reminder that nominations for the 2024 Inclusive Excellence Awards are due Monday, March 11th at 11:59pm. Relevant teaching awards offered include the Faculty Excellence in Community Award and the Faculty Excellence in Inclusive Teaching Award.
